We are excited to announce the launch of a new industrial PhD project funded by the Industrial Doctoral School at Umeå University through the Business School for Collaboration and Innovation, in collaboration with BioGaia AB, a global leader in probiotic development.

This collaborative initiative, "Exploiting Bacterial Gut Adaptations for Next-Generation Probiotic Development", aims to investigate how gut microbes adapt to changing host environment, with a focus on uncovering mechanisms that could be harnessed to design more effective, tailored probiotics.

The project brings together academic expertise in microbial genomics and host-microbe interactions with BioGaia’s translational research platform, creating a unique opportunity to explore fundamental science with real-world application. A PhD student will soon be recruited to carry out this exciting work at the interface of microbiome science, biotechnology, and personalized health.

The industrial PhD student will work closely with two other DDLS funded PhD students in the group on large scale human gut metagenomic data analysis.

We are grateful to the Industrial Doctoral School and BioGaia AB for their support and are eager to begin this journey of discovery and innovation together.
